Price’s Game-Winning Steal-and-Layup Caps Chargers’ Late Comeback vs. Bobcats

Jordan Price’s (Fulton, Ill./Fulton) steal and tiebreaking layup in the final minute capped a seven-point run to close the game for the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team in a 59-57 victory over Bryant & Stratton (Wis.) on Saturday afternoon at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

KEY MOMENTS

  • The Chargers (9-11) trailed 57-52 with 1:48 to play when freshman guard Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) buried a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to two. Freshman forward Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) tied the game at 57 on a turnaround shot at 1:05.
  • Coming out of a timeout, Price intercepted the inbounds pass at midcourt and took it all the way for a left-handed layup and the game’s final points with :49 to go.
  • Bryant & Stratton (14-9) used a 7-0 run to take a 53-47 lead with 4:44 to play. The six-point margin was the largest for either team in a game that saw six ties and 19 lead changes.
  • The Bobcats went scoreless in the game’s final 2:12 and had two turnovers and a pair of missed free throws in the last minute.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Sophomore guard Danayzia Stuckey (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) carried the Chargers’ offense for much of the day. Stuckey scored a game-high 24 points, with 17 coming in the opening half. She finished 9 of 18 from the field, including 6 for 12 from 3-point range. Stuckey drained five 3s in the first two quarters, helping Sandburg to a 27-23 lead.

UP NEXT
The Chargers host Highland at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the opening game of an Arrowhead Conference men’s-women’s doubleheader. The contest is a makeup from the game that was postponed Jan. 15.
